Louis XIV's Revocation of the Edict of Nantes (1685) made Protestantism illegal in France. ~200,000 Huguenots fled, including ~50,000 to England. Brought silk weaving (Spitalfields, London), banking skills, watch-making, glass-blowing. Word 'refugee' entered English from the French 'refugie'. Greatly enriched English economy + culture.
