Safeguarding statement

Gist is built for school-age students. Their safety on our service comes before everything else.

No social features

Gist has no messaging, no public profiles, no comments, no friends list, and no follower system. Students cannot contact each other through the service. This is by design — it removes the largest category of online-safety risks for under-18 platforms.

Minimal data, by design

We ask only for a username and password. We do not collect real names, school names, ages, photos, or location. Students can revise without revealing anything about themselves.

For parents and guardians

• You can delete your child's account at any time from the profile page.
• You can request a copy of everything we hold on your child via the data export link.
• If you have concerns about how your child is using Gist, or about content within it, email hello@gist.example.

For schools

We're happy to work with school designated safeguarding leads to put a written data-processing agreement in place ahead of any roll-out. Email hello@gist.example.

Reporting concerns

If you believe a child is in immediate danger, contact the police on 999 (or 101 for non-urgent). The NSPCC helpline is 0808 800 5000 (24/7). Childline is 0800 1111 (free, anonymous, for under-19s).

Age-Appropriate Design Code

We aim to follow the UK Information Commissioner's Age-Appropriate Design Code — including the principles of data minimisation, default high-privacy settings, and clear plain-language explanations of how the service works.
