Privacy Policy

Gist is a personal revision-planning tool built for GCSE students. This page explains what data we collect, why, and how you can get rid of it.

What we collect

  • Account info — username, display name, and (if you provide one) email address. Email is used only for password reset.
  • Google account info — if you choose "Sign in with Google", we receive your email address and name from Google. We never see your Google password.
  • Your revision data — subjects, exam boards, target grades, exam dates, availability, and the URLs you paste for each app (e.g. your Save My Exams dashboard link).
  • Your usage — which tasks you started, how long you spent, and whether you rated them Easy/Ok/Hard. This is what makes the plan adapt.

What we do NOT collect

  • We never log into third-party revision apps (Seneca, Save My Exams, Dr Frost, etc.) on your behalf.
  • We never scrape or fetch content from those apps.
  • We don't run third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or share data with any advertiser.
  • We don't sell data. Ever.

Cookies

Gist uses one strictly-necessary cookie: the Django session cookie that keeps you logged in. It contains only a session ID; it doesn't identify you across other sites. See the cookies page for detail.

Under-16s and consent

Gist is aimed at GCSE students, who in the UK are typically 14–16. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to help you sign up. Under UK GDPR, we treat all under-16 accounts with the same care: no marketing use of your data, no profiling for advertising.

Your rights

You can:

  • See a copy of your data — export it as JSON from settings.
  • Delete your account and all associated data — from settings. Deletion is permanent and cascades to every record we hold about you.
  • Correct or update your data — via settings.

Where your data lives

Data is stored on a single server (Oracle Cloud, London region) in a PostgreSQL database. Only the operator of that server (Andrew) has access.
